Community Bridges is looking for committed, energetic citizens from the greater Merrimack County area who want to serve on our board of directors. It is an excellent chance to be part of shaping the future of developmental services in the region as well as the state and to help build more inclusive communities.
The Board of Directors of the Community Bridges is committed to access and equity issues and welcomes applicants from all of the diverse communities and neighborhoods of our area.
The Board of Directors is firmly committed to the Policy Governance model. We are looking for people who are interested in working within this framework.
We are also looking for candidates who are:
- Dedicated to supporting innovative practices in advancing the integration, growth and interdependence of people with disabilities within their home communities
- Interested in strengthen the capacity of people to control how supports are provided to live a good life
- Committed to bringing the voice of the community into agency governance
What is in it for you
Sitting on the Board of Directors will give you a chance to meet and work with people from across Merrimack County. You will be able to develop skills in new areas and contribute to the evolution of developmental services in the region.
Community Bridge's Board of Directors will also give you an orientation to community support services, the agency and what it means to be a director under the Policy Governance model. The agency will train and support you in carrying out your Board job.
Are there any costs involved in being a board member
The position is a volunteer position. Most meetings take place at our main offices in Bow.
Time commitment
The first term is for three years. The position will then be up for re-nomination for different time periods. The Board meets at least 10 times per year. There is an annual retreat each year. This usually occurs in November for a half day on Friday and Saturday. Board members are expected to participate in one of a variety of standing committees. These committees meet from monthly to quarterly.
Who can sit on the Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is made up of citizens from across the Merrimack County region. Anyone living within the county - in addition to the towns of Weare, Hillsborough, and Derring and excluding the town of Hooksett – is eligible to be a member of the board. Individuals or their spouse"s who are employees of the agency or those of contracting agencies are not eligible. One third of the members of the board must be people who receive services.
Selection
The board Nominating Committee reviews applications for membership. The committee prepares a slate of directors for the full board to consider. All nominations will be screened by the Nominations Committee based on their commitment to the mission of Community Bridges and past experience relevant to the current needs of the board.
