Having a job provides all individuals—with or without a disability—a sense of purpose, a feeling of belonging, and a set of goals. Working empowers individuals, and gives them a sense of self-worth and pride.
Whether paid or volunteer, people who work experience benefits beyond monetary compensation, including:
- An opportunity to share natural talents and abilities
- A chance to improve social skills
- A way to build a personal identity
- An opportunity to meet new people
- A path to learning new skills
Community Connections
Our Career Development Program works in the community to build awareness about integrated employment efforts. We identify potential employment opportunities and utilize creative solutions to find employment for individuals with disabilities where they can share their natural talents, enthusiasm, and spirit with employers and the community at large. Some of these creative solutions include internships, on-the-job training, and collaboration with Vocational Rehabilitation.
Some of our services include:
- Job shadowing
- Informational interviewing support
- Onsite work observations
- Labor market surveys
- Education about different job functions and skills
- Advocating for an employee to have a job expanded, changed, or adapted
Corporate Benefits
A Career Development specialist works with employers to find, modify, and create jobs for participants in our program. Local and national businesses understand the value of integrated employment efforts and how these efforts build a strong community.
They also understand the advantages that come with hiring individuals with disabilities, including:
- Building company morale
- Elevating retention rates
- Improving the company's social image
- Qualifying for tax credits
Community Bridges offers additional employer services, including training, assistance with financial incentives, and tax credits.
