Family Support Council

The Family Support Council is vital to the success of Community Bridges' mission. The Council is made up of individuals who reside in our service area and who each have a family member with a disability. Its goal is to ensure that all individuals with disabilities are valued as contributing members of the community.
The Council achieves its goal by providing:
- A forum where families share information and support
- A voice for change and inclusion
- A source of encouragement and support
- A resource of talent, experience, and perspective
- A community of people who care about one another
- The Family Support Council is at the heart of Community Bridges and its mission.

The Family Support Council empowers families with a member of any age who experiences a disability. The Family Support Council works in partnership with Community Bridges to provide knowledge, support and advocacy.
These options allow families to make informed decisions on behalf of their family member. The Council works to ensure that all individuals with disabilities are valued members of the community.
The Family Support Council also:
- Provides a voice for individuals with disabilities and their families throughout the region
- Shares information and provides education to families
- Remains current on and shares perspectives about the work of other area agencies, the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities, and national trends
- Advises the Community Bridges Board of Directors on matters affecting families, as well as in the planning and coordination of events, activities, and workshops
