Community Bridges
Working Together to Support People
Leadership

Community Bridges is a non-profit, community based organization led by a volunteer Board of Directors. Many of these men and women are people with a disability or family members of people with disabilities, which gives them an invaluable perspective and understanding of the families we serve. The Family Support Council, comprised of family members of a person with a disability also performs an important advocacy and advisory role.

The Community Bridges Board of Directors assures that the activities of the organization are in line with our Mission. They work in partnership with the Family Support Council and management staff to establish our strategic plan. The Board oversees the implementation of the strategic plan and updates it every two years or as necessary. There are several standing and ad hoc committees that the Board appoints and serves on. The Board of Directors is comprised of community members, consumers, and parents of children with a disability.

Family Support Council The Family Support Council is comprised of people (residing in Community Bridges' target communities) who have a family member with a disability. The Council works to ensure that all individuals with disabilities are valued as contributing members of the community. All families are invited to join our local Family Support Council. It empowers families and gives them a forum and resources for mutual support, to make decisions about their own children, and to engage in effective community outreach. The Family Support Council is a critical link in the ongoing work of helping parents make their needs, preferences and concerns known to the larger community.
